In the Lake of Constance region, Germany’s southernmost fruit-growing area, about 700 growers, which are mostly family-managed, cultivate apples such as Elstar, Gala, Jonagold and Braeburn in order to name just a few examples. The area of Lake of Constance is the second largest apple growing area in Germany and offers an ideal climate for fruit-growing with long periods of sunshine. These are excellent preconditions for apples of premium quality. For this reason the area of Lake of Constance has the broadest range of varieties throughout Europe thanks to ideal growing conditions. The first varieties of pome were cultivated here more than thousand years ago.
